主要从事代谢性疾病、精神性疾病病理机制及中药干预、相关中药新药临床前研究等工作。已在Hepatology、Psychoneuroendocrinology、Mol. Nutr. Food Res、Br. J Pharmacol.、Biochem. Pharmacol、J Nutr Biochem.、PLoS One、Toxical lett. 等SCI重要刊物上发表中药研究论文60多篇(54篇为第一或通讯作者);申请专利14 件(授权7件)。编写专著4个章节[3个为国外出版]。为《中国天然药物》编委、国家食品药品监督管理局保健食品审评专家、科技部国际科技合作计划项目评价专家、教育部科技奖励评审专家、10余种SCI专业杂志评阅人。入选教育部2006年度新世纪优秀人才计划、2007年江苏省“333高层次人才培养工程”和“六大人才高峰”[A类]、 2010年国家杰出青年基金获得者、教育部长江学者和创新团队发展计划创新团队带头人之一、首批南京大学高层次学科带头人奖励计划(南京大学特聘教授)。2010年被九三学社中央委员会授予优秀社员荣誉称号。2005年获第二届“中国青年女科学家奖”提名奖。研究成果“民间常用草药成分的分析与功能研究”获2005年度教育部提名国家科学技术奖•自然科学奖一等奖(第二完成人)、“若干重要药用植物的成分研究”获2009年度国家自然科学奖二等奖(第四完成人)。
