长期从事环境基因组学和功能基因组学研究技术、微生物生态和极端环境条件下微生物群落和生态系统基因组学、系统生物学和生物信息学等多个领域的研究。目前正在主持美国 “Genomes to Life” 等重大项目20余项,总经费1800多万美元。在Science,PNAS等国际知名刊物发表学术论文200多篇,2008年后总引用次数超过9000次,H-index为52。现任Appl.Environ. Microbiol. 常务编委, Omics: A Journal of Integrative Biology,mBio等国际权威刊物编委。
