1982年毕业于合肥工业大学应用力学专业，1984、1993年分别获西南交通大学一般力学专业硕士学位与固体力学博士学位

1991年任副教授，1994年破格晋升教授，1997年任博士生导师。1987年9月至1988年9月，法国尼斯大学数学系访问学者；2000年4月至2000年10月， 美国佛罗里达大学数学系客座教授；2002年10月至2003年10月，美国杜克大学机械工程与材料科学系访问教授。
