1989年7月毕业于兰州大学化学系，1993年12月在兰州大学获得有机化学博士学位。

1995年9月-1998年8月在美国哈佛大学化学和化学生物系师从著名有机化学家、1990年诺贝尔化学奖得主E. J. Corey教授从事博士后研究。1998年9月－2004年12月任兰州大学应用有机化学国家重点实验室教授，博士生导师；期间于2002－2004年应邀赴美国哈佛大学在E. J. Corey教授研究室做高级访问学者；2005年1月-2011年4月任南开大学元素有机化学国家重点实验室教授，2011年5月至2016年12月任重庆大学药学院副主任、教授、博士生导师。2017年1月1日至今任西南交通大学生命科学与工程学院教授、药学学科硕士生导师及材料科学与工程学科(创新药物与载体材料方向)博士生导师。
